What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are veins that have become unhealthy or diseased. Veins allow blood to flow around the body to the heart, but our veins are designed to flow one way only. These diseased veins are no longer functioning correctly, and are allowing blood to flow backward as well. This results in veins that are enlarged, raised, twisted and ropey. They usually appear in the legs.
